stay tuned [General] - jdietrick - jdietrick@gmail.com @ 10:49:12
I just switched servers and am having a few problems with the site. Over winter break, I'll be redoing the site so that it is easier to sign up to get recent entries (including podcasts), calls for participants, related conferences, and interact with my students in a class called "This Question of Moving." See http://joelledietrick.com/2006/teaching/moving_syllabus.pdf. I'm also hoping to participate in a summer event near Barcelona called Idensitat. Please let me know if you have any contacts in that region of Spain. More info at http://www.idensitat.org/a_index.htm. Interested participants should email me at jdietrick@gmail.com. When the new site is ready to go, I'll send an email pointing you to it. Thanks!

inspired to blog [General] - jdietrick - jdietrick@gmail.com @ 10:49:12
Very quiet here in the Banff studios so I'll just type in a quick post rather than record audio. Lots of changes soon to come for female-expat.org. Site will get a major overhaul, including doing away with username and password because it seems to be preventing traffic. I'll email folks soon with an update.

more on elizabeth bishop [General] - jdietrick - jdietrick@gmail.com @ 22:22:41
http://absfa.talonline.ca/login?url=http://site.ebrary.com/lib/banffcentre/Doc?id=10069577. BISHOP WAS NOT A TRAVEL WRITER PER SE. She predicted she would find herself marginalized by the New York literary establishment as a chronicler of the exotic and “picturesque” rather than as a writer who trusted in direct experience for subject matter, wherever found. Yet it is precisely this unpremeditated or reluctant positioning vis-à-vis her foreign subject that makes Bishop such a fine travel writer.
